I am currently a sophomore at a semi-competitive and high ranked college. I want to get into investment banking or private equity upon graduation. This would require me to major in Finance (Business) or Accounting but here’s the dilemma that I’m facing:

1) Accounting and Finance majors are taught by the same professors and students take very similar classes.

2) The Finance major offers no specific concentration and does not appear on the transcript. The resume will only show “business”.

3) Accounting appears on the transcript and would allow me to take additional finance courses.

If i pursued an Accounting degree, what would set me apart from the finance majors is an emphasis in accounting with the same coursework and knowledge as the finance students.

When I graduate and enter the job market, would the accounting degree be any different than a general “business” degree? Thanks!
